Oxford Racing Ducati seal Showdown place for the first time with Bridewell

The Oxford Racing Ducati team have sealed their position in the Bennetts British Superbike Championship Showdown for the first time after Tommy Bridewell claimed a pair of podium finishes in the penultimate round of the Main Season at Cadwell Park.

The Winchester-based Ducati dealership team have progressed through the ranks from the Pirelli National Superstock 1000 Championship, initially into the Evo class before claiming their first Showdown position this season. Bridewell has taken them to ten podium finishes this season so far as he bids to claim the team their first race win of the season at Oulton Park.

Team owner Steve Moore said: “Everyone starts the season and wants to be in the Showdown. From day one this season Tommy has been determined to achieve more than that; he wanted to fight for the championship and his attitude has been refreshing this year. To have done it with one round to go is even better as we can now focus on trying to score the final Podium Points before the Showdown.

“We started the season looking to fight for top four positions and then the Showdown but that went out of the window. It is an awesome feeling to have qualified; we started as a team in Superstock 1000 – even one of our sponsors Solent Scitentific has been there from the beginning, we then took the next step originally into the Evo class and then were looking to score points. We then aimed higher and started looking at top tens, then top fives and then the Showdown.

“We have had years where injury has stopped us being in the fight for the Showdown but I am over the moon to have done it this year; and it is a testament to the hard work of our team, many of them have been there from the start, and Tommy. Tommy has excelled this season with the new bike; it has been a challenge. The team are buzzing and we are looking forward to Oulton Park now and looking ahead to the Showdown.”

The opening round of the 2020 Bennetts British Superbike Championship takes place at Silverstone on April 10/11/12.
